Dain Wines Frequently Asked Questions

After sending out our most recent newsletter, I received a number of questions regarding our wine. Well, I will not make the mistake of assuming everyone knows everything about our wine and purchasing our wine, so, a big thank you to everyone who asked a question and here are the answers to those of you who may have thought..gee, I wonder?

How on earth, do I get some of your wine?

Easy as pie. Existing customers, being those folks with a purchase history from our mailing list, will receive an allocation on or about, August 15th of this year. Allocations to current customers will be held until September 7th, 2007. Those of you on the mailing list but without a previous purchase will receive an offering of wine on or about September 7th, 2007. Requests for fulfillment of these offerings will be honored as long as supply permits. Instructions for purchase will be included with your offering. This offering will be for our 2006 pinot noir and syrah. You will receive this allocation/offering via email and snail mail. Wine will be shipped in late November or December, weather permitting. Ground shipping via FedEx is included in the purchase price.

Can you ship to my state?

Probably, just ask. We prefer fully reciprocal states (list to follow) but can make arrangements for most states and commonwealths. We request a minimum order of three bottles to help us control costs. We have no "hostage" wines. Order what you want. Heck, take some of everything.

Is your wine available in retail wine stores?

Yes, in California, Missouri, New York, Virginia and New Jersey. I will include a list of retailers, restaurants and distributors with subsequent newsletters.

How much wine do you make?

This year, about 500+ cases total. If all goes well and all the barrels continue to taste real good, we should have the following for each wine.

Pinot noir

American Beauty (RRV)                     100 cases
Savage Juliet (Anderson Valley)       200 cases
Rebel (Santa Maria Valley)                  50 cases
Dandy (Chalone)                                    50 cases

Syrah

The Smart Set (Santa Barbara)             50 cases

How much wine will you make for the 2007 vintage?

About 700+ cases, with the mix approximately what you see above but just a little more for each vineyard. We are trying to grow, but grow at a modest rate in a fashion that allows us to really watch quality and make the best wine possible.

Do you take Check or Money Order?

Yes, we also take American Express, Discover, Visa and Master Card. Our wines are $44 a bottle for mailing list customers, this represents a discount off of our MSRP. FedEx ground delivery included in purchase price. 2nd day air shipping is available upon request for additional fee.

What do you do with my email and address and contact information?

Absolutely nothing except serve your account. We share no data, period. We use your information only for our business with you. See our privacy policy at our website,

What if I get a bad bottle?

Tell us, we will make it right!

When can I drink my wine?

Any darn time you like (except when driving) it is your wine! However, we will send out recommendations for drinking windows and you may have noticed we like to send out recipes too! You must be 21 to purchase and you will be required to have a person 21 years or older sign for receipt of your Dain Wines vino.

How do I store my wine?

You really need to make arrangements for a dark, humid, cool, environment which is free from vibration. It is best to allow wine to set quietly for a few weeks after arrival at a temperature of less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, preferably, less than 55 degrees, and absolutely less than 70 degrees. We will ship only when temperatures are suitable to avoid heat damage.

More reviews for your reading enjoyment!

The following are from Josh Raynolds of the International Wine Cellar, which as some of you may know, is Steve Tanzer's publication. I hope it doesn't sound like bragging but we are pretty proud of the reviews we have received from Mr. Parker, the WS and now from the IWC. What really matters to us is what you think, as our actual customer.

2005 Dain Wines American Beauty Russian River Valley
Light red. Vibrant and alluring scents of wild strawberry, redcurrant and raspberry, with subtle smoke and fresh floral accents. The crisp red berry flavors display impressive energy and are braced by racy acidity. The long, pure finish shows no obvious tannins. This delicate and balanced pinot offers an impressive expression of pure red fruit.    90

2005 Dain Wines Savage Juliet Hein Vineyard Anderson Valley
Light red. Suave red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by licorice, musky underbrush and sweet mocha. A medium-bodied wine with a gently chewy texture; bright, juicy raspberry and blackberry flavors are supported by firm but well-integrated tannins. Gains sweetness on the long, sappy finish, which echoes the blackberry tone. This is flat-out delicious.   91

2005 Dain Wines Rebel Rancho Ontiveros Vineyard Santa Maria Valley
Dark red. Powerfully aromatic nose features deep kirsch, cassis and mocha scents and a lively floral accent. Deep and rich, with strong cherry and dark berry flavors given an exotic twist by floral pastille and licorice notes. Finishes with a burst of ripe cherry and espresso and impressive breadth as well as length.   90   (JR)
